Early Stegostyla (Stegostyla praecox - formerly Caladenia praecox)

Flowers in Spring (Aug - Sep), favours open forest and woodland, often in often in gravel type soils.

One of the first of the Stegostyla to flower in Spring.  The labellum is fringed with linear calli and flowers are white - unscented.  The photo ruler indicates the height of this particular plant - a total of 3.5 inches (9cm).

Pollination of the Stegostyla species has been studied very little but it is thought that smaller ones are pollinated by bees.

Hybrid Helmet Orchid (Corysanthes X miscellus - formerly Corybas X miscellus)

Flowers in Winter (Jun - Aug), favours damp shady/sheltered sites in open forest and heathland.

This hybrid is a cross between the Corysanthes diemenica and Corysanthes incurva.  The photo ruler gives an indication of size of the flower being 2cm in height.

Little is known about pollinators but there is some evidence that fungus gnats are pollen vectors.
