Tunstall's Leafy Greenhood (Bunochilus tunstallii - formerly Pterostylis tunstallii)

Flowers in Winter (Jul - Aug), favours moist shrubby coastal areas beneath coastal shrubs.

The photo ruler indicates the height of this particular plant - a total of 10 inches (26cm).  The flower is approx. 1cm high X .5cm wide.

All known pollinators of the Genus Bunochilus have been male insects of the fungus gnat and mosquito family.

Sandhill Spider Orchid (Arachnorchis arenaria - formerly Caladenia arenaria)

Flowers in Spring (Aug - Oct) - favours flat areas in Callistris woodland with well-drained sand.

The largish flower can be cream to pale yellow.  The photo ruler indicates the height of this particular plant - a total of 12 inches (30cm).  The sepals and petals have thin drooping dark red tails.

Pollination of the Arachnorchis species has been studied very little but it is thought that spider orchids are generally pollinated by pseudocopulation (male thynnid wasp).
